My name is Jagger Brocious. I am a Dog Trainer and a certified Behavioral Specialist. Like with most trainers I will say dogs have been a part of my life as long as I can remember. But, I will be completely honest and say it wasn't until 2018 that I really knew what I was doing. I spent my formative years around my mother, a certified dog groomer and in 2015 I helped her start her own shop! Learning the ropes on how to groom and run a business alongside her. Unfortunately, unlike my mother I had no passion for grooming I was just doing it to help her and pay the bills. That is until my dog Duckie entered my life. In 2017. We were at a trade show for the pet industry and one of my favorite rescues at the time had a litter of little pit mixes and I fell in love with Duckie right on the spot. That day we filled out paperwork and within a week she was home with me. I'd never raised a puppy but I did what I could and researched on google like any person would do. But unfortunately, google didn't have all the answers and things came to a head when my family dog attacked Duckie. We sought the help of a professional trainer and thus my journey began. It's ironic that I ended up in this field as I was not a good client for my trainer in 2017. I was lazy, disinterested, and downright difficult. I wanted instant results from the family dog and to put the least effort in I could. After a few "failed" lessons and a few hundred dollars later I started changing my google searches to Dog Training Schools. Thus began my real first steps in the industry as in Spring / Summer of 2018 I applied and was enrolled in one of the top schools in the country for dog training STARMARK ACADEMY! I spent three months in their 12-week Dog Trainer and Behavior Specialist program working day in and day out with shelter dogs teaching them everything from sit and down all the way to some service dog tasks, narcotics detection, and agility! It was a lot of fun and unlike traditional school and college I actually excelled! As summer came to an end and so did my program I applied for further education via Starmark with their Academy Internship program. I was lucky enough to be accepted from a long list of classmates and my three months in Texas turned into a 7 month adventure! As a Starmark intern I had three main focuses to further my education. First, public speaking / teaching skills. Secondly, Behavior modification in the form of working with dogs listed for euthanasia and rehabilitating them. Then lastly, Dock Diving, a sport my rescue dog Cami was in love with! Over those fourth months I also helped teach the next class and picked up a lot of skills from my mentors. But as all good things come to an end and in November of 2018 I said my goodbyes to Starmark and headed back to Michigan to start Lucky Paws Dog Training. I spent the end of 2018 and start of 2019 trying to get things started with my training business, but being honest at the time looking back I just wasn't ready yet. I had the knowledge but still was inexperienced and starting off it was a bumpy road. Until in January of 2019 when Starmark reached out with an opportunity to come back down to Texas and work with their Training Department. I was sold immediately, getting to return to the place that taught me everything to gain more knowledge and experience from my mentors. I couldn't pass it up. So sadly in January 2019 after only three months of operation I closed down Lucky Paws and moved back down to Texas. From 2019 - end of year 2021 I spent my days working for Starmark Animal Behavior Center. Working with hundreds of clients and helping so many people live better lives with their dogs. I went from a new hire to head of the training department. Managing my own schedule as well as maintaining the other trainers mentoring when needed. Just as I felt I learned everything I could opportunity came knocking again as Starmark Academy had an opening looking for an Instructor for the very school that gave me all the passion I had. So I switched careers from a trainer to a teacher. From 2022 - 2023 I ran Starmark Academy leading four classes and teaching the next generation what I was taught and hopefully inspiring their passions with dogs! Then in 2023 I parted ways with Starmark and reopened Lucky Paws Dog Training! I’m happy to say as of writing this Lucky Paws has been in operation over a year! Helping people and their dog’s has always been my passion and now with Lucky Paws I can do just that. Help people.
